Sweet 16

Here's a story you've probably already seen in the news.

It raises several questions such as;

"Part of their job is to seize alcohol from under 18's so it would be inappropriate for a 16-year-old to be in possession of something they are not allowed to have."

One Federation official pointed out that, technically, they could not deal with a disturbance in a cinema if a certificate 18 film was being shown.

What a joke! The article also points out that there plans to recruit even more PCSO's.

What idiot in senior management came up with that idea!!
Those of us in this much sneered at role of PCSO, who have been working hard for credibility, just see the job being made to look stupid.
However good and keen a sixteen year old you may be, you cannot have the experience and credibility to deal with a pissed up 17year old. I'm bloddy sure that I couln't have done this job when I was sixteen. They must be sooooo mature.

I don't agree with 16yr old PCSOs but equally it's inappropriate for a PC to be in possession of something they are not allowed to have (eg Class A) UNLESS they're on duty (so why not a PCSO of any age)
And can PCs go into a private club if there's a disturbance? So why can't a PCSO (of any age) not go into a cinema on duty-

If you listened to the Fed reps comments on the radio and changed 16yr old to female you get the comments they used in the 70s about females.
We don't want or need 16yr old PCSOs but lets have better reasons why not!

It got to me so much I did a post about it venting my spleen. It is ridiculous. They can't legally drink, drive or, as you pointed out, go into a cinema when an 18 cert is on. what bloody planet is that recruitment department on?! Arrrrrggggghhhhhhhh!

I totally agree with you.
It is too silly for words.
If a sixteen year old started to question me, I would tell them to p**s off.
